How to Level a Travel Trailer
When you arrive at an RV campground, it's wise to take the time to level your travel trailer. Otherwise, your camper will inevitably be as sloped as the ground that it's sitting on. The leveling process helps lead to a more comfortable time inside the travel trailer and helps prevent issues, such as water pooling in different areas.

Start With a Strategic Spot
Find the flattest area possible. The less sloped the ground is, the less work you will need to do when leveling your travel trailer.
It's also wise to look for firm ground. Some materials, such as gravel and sand, can shift about under the weight of an RV. It won't take long for all of your hard work to be undone! Whenever possible, avoid parking on these challenging materials.
With Your Travel Trailer Still Connected to the Tow Vehicle
Use a carpenter's level or smartphone app to determine whether to raise the left or right side of the RV. Then, put leveling blocks or boards under the side you wish to raise. Back your travel trailer up onto them.
Double check your work using the level. If the height adjustment wasn't enough, try again. The more often that you utilize your travel trailer, the easier this step will become. Practice makes perfect!
With Your Travel Trailer Disconnected From the Tow Vehicle
Your travel trailer is now level from side to side. Make sure it stays that way! Place blocks or chocks in front of and behind the wheels. Then, disconnect the tow vehicle.
Next, use the level to determine whether you'll need to raise the front or the back of the travel trailer. Make the adjustment with the jack, double check your work, and make further adjustments as needed.
The last step is to secure the travel trailer in its current position. Otherwise, walking around in the travel trailer could undo your efforts.
That's where stabilizers enter the picture. They function as jacks to keep your travel trailer securely in place. Some stabilizers can be raised automatically while others are raised with a tool. It just depends on your given travel trailer. Adjust the stabilizers so that they are firmly into the ground, then get ready to enjoy your RV vacation!
